Market of the Living Dead a Bloody Sucess!

We wrapped up the 6th season of the Sowa Open Market this past Sunday (Oct 25) with our 6th annual Market of the Living Dead. This was one of the busiest days of the season, 140 vendors, thousands of customers, perfect weather, AMAZING costumes, music... we had it all!

Market of the Living Dead this Sunday! Celebrating Halloween and the last market of the season.

This season of the SoWa Open Market has been a blast and a half and as such, we're going out with a bang -- or more precisely, 120. 120 amazing vendors are expected for the final market this Sunday, October 25, Market-of-the-Living-Dead that is. We hesitate to even call this a market, it's an EVENT! So much so, that the {NewNew} an exciting group of emerging artists and designers from NYC will be joining the market.

We will be holding our annual vendor costume contest which for the first time will be accompanied by a customer costume contest with BIG prizes for each. Come as your most horrifying, disturbing zombie and win fabulous prizes, what could be better? Customer Costume Contest judging begins at 2pm, Vendor Costume judging begins at 3pm.

AFAS Pumpkin, Gourde and Fruit Carving Contest

 
The Gaslight Grill will be hosting a fruit and veggie carving contest on their patio sponsored by AFAS. The event is open to the public carving and begins at 11AM, judging at 4PM. The farmers market will have tons of fresh gourdes, pumpkins and fruits dying to be cut.

Pumpkin Carver Extraordinaire, Travis Reckner!

 
Travis Reckner from the Roger Williams Zoo will be displaying some of his renowned carved pumpkins and doing demos outside of Rooca Restaurant starting at 1PM, next to the Sowa Produce Market at 500 Harrison Ave.

Art, craft, free treats, live music, and jolly mahem for one and all, this event is not to be missed.

Pumpkin Carver Extraordinaire, Travis Reckner at Sowa this Sunday!

We have great news about the 25th! Travis Reckner from the Jack O’Lantern Spectacular at the Roger Williams Zoo in Providence  will be joining us for our last Sunday of the season, October 25th to show his expert pumpkin carvings and to do a demo. Travis will be set up outside of Rooca Restaurant, next to the Sowa Produce Market at 500 Harrison Ave. Check back in a few days for the exact time!

South End Open Studios This Weekend / Sept 19 & 20

Over 120 artists, indie designers and crafts people will be selling their wares outdoors at the Sowa Open Market this Saturday and Sunday, Sept.19 & 20. This is our biggest weekend of the season. Plus an additional 250 private artist studios, galleries and stores will open their doors to the public.

Whether you have come to South End Open Studios for a number of years or this will be your first visit, you will be impressed by the incredible range of work there is to experience. 

Each stop along the self-guided route will introduce you to artists working a in range of media...oils, watercolors, photography, sculpture, jewelry, mixed media, fiber arts, ceramics, wood, glass, and metal as well as other types of visual and performance arts.

BerkshireMade is a cooperative effort by a select group of Berkshire artisans to promote their high quality, locally made creative work. BerkshireMade artisans have established individual reputations for excellence in their mediums of jewelry, woodworking, ceramics, glass, fabric, paper, metal, fine arts and specialty food. Join 20 members plus 75 Boston area vendors  @ the Sowa Open Market this Sunday, September 13th.

New Market Coming to Sowa!

Open Every Sunday, starting August 23rd-October 25th (excluding Sept 5th), 10am –4pm

Outdoors at 450–460 Harrison Ave on Thayer Street.

The New Sowa Import Market will run in conjunction with the successful Sowa Open Market http://www.sowaopenmarket.com in an adjacent lot on Sundays from 10am-4pm. The Sowa Open Market, now its 6th season is one Boston’s biggest weekend destinations.

We are currently seeking handmade import vendors from around NE. The fee is 25.00 per Sunday for a 10x10 space. There is no minimum to sign up. Only handmade imported items will be considered, no mass produced products.

The {NewNew} is an eclectic group of independent artists in the Metro New York area devoted to fostering a creative and supportive environment among its members. The group encourages a spirit of camaraderie through craftsmanship and strives to help its members achieve success on both a personal and professional level. Members come from many different backgrounds and produce fine, handcrafted goods including clothing, home décor, jewelry, accessories, paper goods, bath and body products, toys, and baked goods. Everything is designed and produced locally by the talented artists of The {NewNew}.
