The Offbeat Studio
South End and Mashpee Open Markets
Hailing from New Bedford Massachusetts, a historic whaling city with a thriving artist community, Abbe Ciulla specializes in handmade jewelry, fiber arts, and fine arts. A student from Umass Dartmouth, with a degree in Jewelry Design/Metal Fabrication, and side focus on philosophy, Abbe tours with other artists around New England, spreading their art and support for green peace.
"My work is inspired most by nature. I use nature's floral forms and the allure of natural defense mechanisms in nature to represent my own social awareness and feminist perspective".
With that being said, all of Abbe's retail jewelry is socially responsible and eco-aware. All of the metal used in her work is recycled metal. The recycled metal is hand melted down by Abbe and is comprised of old silver and gold jewelry, findings, and grains. By melting down her own metal, she eliminates the harmful mining process of digging metals out of the earth and mass refining them. Abbe has also started a fiber arts jewelry retail line, made almost entirely from recycled and reused materials. Each piece made has a organic appeal as well as a history from the comprised materials.
